A full-day trip to Edfu and Kom Ombo from Marsa Alam is a great way to explore some of the most impressive ancient temples in Egypt. The tour typically begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Marsa Alam and a scenic drive to Edfu, which takes around 4 hours.
Once in Edfu, you will visit the Temple of Horus, which is the best-preserved temple in Egypt. The temple is dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus, who was the protector of the pharaohs. The temple is decorated with elaborate reliefs and hieroglyphs that tell the story of Horus’ battle with his uncle Seth.
After visiting the Temple of Horus, you will enjoy a traditional Egyptian lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, you will continue to Kom Ombo, which is about 30 minutes away from Edfu.
The Temple of Kom Ombo is unique in that it is dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god of fertility, and Horus, the falcon-headed god of the sky. The temple is divided into two halves, one for each god. The Sobek half of the temple contains a relief of a crocodile with a pharaoh’s head, which is one of the most iconic images in ancient Egypt.
